The laptop runs on an AMD processor. I’ve been using an AMD laptop for like two years now, and an Intel desktop PC for almost the same time. Both are comparable when it comes to the processors they have, but I get a lot better performance from the laptop, which runs on an AMD chip. No offense Intel, but I’ve lot interest in you. The PC tends to become sluggish after a time.
But there are drawbacks with AMD as well, first is the well known heating issue. The laptop gets heated up in no time, its true. I use a cooling pad under my laptop for the reason. But the performance you get is of no match. Anyway, the processor in this case is a Phenom II quad-core processor, which is a lot similar to Intel’s i5. Not at all a bad choice.
Coming to the memory, it has 4GB DDR3 installed, no issues here as well. Its a lot for anything you can possibly do. Also, the frequency of the memory is 1,333 MHz. With this comes the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 dedicated graphics card of up to 1GB. Seriously, if you are not a hard core gamer, this is some serious configuration for the price you are going to pay.
Its got a 500GB hard disk in it, so you can get all the stuff you need inside your laptop. If you are a movies or music buff, like me, then you can enjoy it with the beautiful 15.6” HD widescreen TrueLife display and the built in stereo speakers which produce 2W each and have premium SRS sound. Sweet, isn’t it?
With this being the main area of interest, you have all the other usual ports and stuffs. You even have a 7-in-1 card reader. But one disappointing this is that the laptop has only one line out jack, that is the head phone jack. Most laptops started shipping with two of these and one mic in ports like years back. I dont know why this has only one line out port.
There are all the kinds of wireless connectivity options that are standard. You can have different color options and a bit change in the config as well, it depends on your needs. If you are satisfied with this, you can buy Dell Inspiron iM501R laptop now for $819.99 from The Tech Check Store. Other options of similar laptops are also given below.
