Motorola DROID X2 review

Motorola DROID X2 review
The previous launch of Motorola DROID X was a big hit, which had a screen size of 4.3” and resolution which supported 480×854 pixels with a 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor and an amazing internal storage of 6.15GB and higher end connection options. The expected DROD X2 is likely to have more improvements.

The Motorola DROID X2 will have same 4.3-inch capacitive screen with multi-touch capabilities, but the screen resolution is increased to 540×960 pixels. The processor will be upgraded to dual core Tegra 1Ghz processor from NVIDIA which is faster than LG Optimus 2X.

As far as OS is concerned, it is likely to be Android 2.2(Froyo), but for future upgrades Motorola might have plans to support Android 2.3(Gingerbread) or may be Android 3.0 (Honey Comb).

The USB connector will be USB 2.0 and other features like Wi-fi, DLNA network based streaming, HDMI output, 8MP camera which can shoot even in motion and is faster than its previous model DROID X and can record 720p HD videos. Coming to battery, same batteries will be used. Just like the previous droid upfront is the AMOLED display which will also improve the battery life.

Motorola DROID X2 will have a microSD, but the memory of the microSD card which is bundled is still not known.

Since it is Verizon branded, Motorola DROID X2 might be only for US regions. The price detail is not yet revealed. Nevertheless, let’s wait for Motorola to launch Motorola DROID X2.0.

New HP Envy 17 3D Laptops First Look

New HP Envy 17 3D Laptops First Look
HP Envy laptops are known for its ravishing designs and powerful features. The second generation of the Envy lineup is popular and it just has all the incredible qualities of Envy series like sleek and compactness with high end features all these are available at very reasonable price. Now, HP is soon going to release their next Envy laptop HP 17 featuring 3D.

The Envy17 includes a Blu-ray drive and has the following ports HDMI, USB 3.0 port and Display Port outputs. Though HP Envy 17 features 3D it has XpanD glasses with TriDef 3D software and so instead of the powerful Nvidia 3D Vision HP has chosen a different path by using XpanD glasses. The TriDef software has many shortcomings which are discussed in the performance section.

Design

The Envy 17 3D is like the same as non-3D version. It looks very sleek with aluminum and magnesium chassis but it is not light to carry around but very hefty. It is very wide and can occupy a big part of your desktop. The Envy 17 3D has a backlit keyboard with a big clickpad. There are subtle patterns of imprinted square over the wrist rest and also at the back of the lid on the Envy laptop. The make of the laptop is good with good feel and durability. It is also fingerproof resistant.

The keyboard is of island style. The keys are flat topped and generously spaced this is quite common in current laptops. The numberpad is present at the right so the keyboard tray is big with keys present wide apart so the typing is easy. The clickpad has striking resemblance with Apple’s version.

Features

* Dimensions: 416.6 x 274.3mm
* Weight: 3.3kg
* Display: 17.3 inches
* Resolution: 1920×1080 p
* Processor: 1.6GHz Intel Core i7
* Memory: 6144 MB
* Hard drive: 640GB
* Graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850
* Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium
* Price: $2,734.88

The HP17 3D has a big display with resolution of 1,920×1, 080 pixels with High definition screen makes it apt for to watch Blu-ray and HD content. HP now has joined hands with Beats audio so with the special bass software and hardware the music sounds really nice with ample clarity. The music sounds better with Beats headphones. Even in 3D the display is bright and clear but it has issues with off axis viewing. The 3D glasses don’t have power button and it automatically turns on when the display has some 3D content on. The HP Envy 17 has 4 USB ports and one SD card reader. There are options like Ethernet, Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi for connectivity. It has Blu-ray combo drive. With Blu-ray drive it was unable to play 3D Blu-ray with the pre loaded TriDef software but it played on CyberLink PowerDVD. The game’s had to be launched through TriDef wrapper application.

The Envy17’s performance is as good as Intel Core i7 laptop with an Intel Core processor 1.6GHz Core i7 720QM. With the latest processor it has to imagine it slow but definitely it wont be the preferred for multi tasking. The Graphical card used is AMD’s Radeon HD5850 is definitely adequate for a high resolution gaming up to 1920×1080 pixels. When we played at resolution 1920×1080 pixels at 88.9frames per second and if we use the 3D system it would move at 30 frames per second. It is perfect for gaming but as far the other aspects are concerned it lags behind. The Envy 17’s battery life is also not so great in battery test it lasted for 1 hour and a minute so it has to be charged frequently. It includes one year warranty on parts and labor.

Features

* Dimensions: 416.6 x 274.3mm
* Weight: 3.3kg
* Display: 17.3 inches
* Resolution: 1920×1080 p
* Processor: 1.6GHz Intel Core i7
* Memory: 6144 MB
* Hard drive: 640GB
* Graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850
* Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium
* Price: $2,734.88

Lenovo’s IdeaCentre Q150 review

Lenovo’s IdeaCentre Q150 review
The Lenovo has launched its new ultra-compact nettop which is called Idea centre Q150. The Q150 is just an update of its previous model. The Q150 features Intel Atom D510 processor, Nvidia’s Ion graphics and it also has some strong multimedia features. The Q150 nettop is priced reasonably and it has not compromised on its features to give a brilliant performance.

Design

The Q150 has a unique design and can match up to the word “compact”. If you see this from far you might think it’s a hard drive. The Q150 looks attractive and its size makes it portable. To achieve the glorious size Lenovo had to compromise on card reader slot & optical drive. The Q150’s exterior is very glossy and the cover has a black color with a Lenovo label and on the left bottom is Idea center etched on it. There is ample number of ports on one of the side and the other half bears nothing. The Q150 is equipped with beautiful glass stand and it aids the device to mount. The device also has VESA bracket so it could also be mounted.

Features

* Processor: Intel D510
* Memory: 2GB of DDR2
* Hard drive: 500GB
* Graphics card: NVIDIA Ion 2 DX10
* Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium
* Price: $350

The Q150 has taken a leap from single Atom chip and updated to Intel D510. The Intel D510 features twin 1.66 GHz cores. The Q150 has memory of DDR 2GB, hard drive of 500 GB and graphics card of NVIDIA Ion 2 DX10. There is no need of partition as NVIDIA has a dedicated 512Mb VRAM. Wi-Fi b/g/n is present for connectivity. There are HDMI, VGA, two USB 2.0, Ethernet and audio in/out ports. There are 2 more USB ports totally 4 USB ports and S/ PDIF digital output these two are hidden under a plastic flap. The Q150 misses out on optical drive. Windows 7 Home Premium PC is the platform on which Q150 runs. The bundle includes USB keyboard, USB mouse and also N5901 wireless controllers. The N5901wireless keyboard is an alternative which can be easily kept on the palm. It consists of QWERTY keypad and a trackpad. There is McAfee Security Center, as software package.

Performance

The Q150’s setup is familiar as it runs on Windows 7 32 bit Home Premium PC. The Q150 is not convenient for HTPC connection. The Q150 is good in multi media and video play back is smooth and is done effortlessly which is quite rare considering low voltage inputs. It plays video files of 1080 p smoothly and it can also stream files of Divx format via Wi-Fi network. It aces in all the simple tasks but multi tasking is not something which it is good at. Encoding is very slow. The 1.66GHz processor doesn’t aid to perk up its speed. Graphics performance is brilliant with NVIDIA ION graphics processor. The 3D Mark 06 test score of this device is 2,585 and overall CPU test score is 878. It doesn’t give an enthralling gaming experience but it is decent enough to play games. As its fete is multimedia it performs well in the following areas easily like playing movies, music and buffering videos. The device is bit slow in multi tasking apart from it the performance of the device is good and it is definitely worth the price.

Acer Aspire AS5742-7645 Design, Features and Performance

Acer Aspire AS5742-7645 Design, Features and Performance
The Acer Aspire AS5742-7645 ($649.99 list), a Costco laptop, follows the basic script for successfully putting together a low-end mainstream laptop. It comes fitted with Intel's Core i3 processor, which provides great bang for the buck, sitting at the bottom rung of Intel's current mobile processor ladder. The CPU has a standard 4GB memory, coupled with integrated Intel graphics. The only core component that comes as a surprise is the 500GB hard drive, which is bigger than the 320GB drives generally found in competing models, such as the Sony VAIO VPC-EB33FM/BJ ($629.99, 4.5 stars)- the current Editors' Choice for the budget laptop category. The VAIO VPC-EB33FM/BJ, however, counts wireless HDMI and WiMAX broadband capabilities among its major attractions. These features are not found on the Aspire AS5742-7645. Still, if you can make due with a wired HDMI connection and 802.11n Wi-Fi, the Acer Aspire AS5742-7645 is something not to be overlooked. It offers great performance for the price, comes backed with a two-year warranty, and runs nearly an hour longer and weighs a smidge lesser than the award-winning Sony.

Design
The Acer Aspire AS5742-7645's design won't stop you as you scroll down the wide aisles of Costco. The laptop features a basic (read: boring) black plastic chassis, which has a textured design on the keyboard deck and a lid that resembles mesh or cross-hatching. The plastic feels thin, flexing in spots underneath your palms and fingertips while typing. The thin plastic chassis of the laptop makes it weigh a few ounces lighter than the Sony EB33FM/BJ; The AS5742-7645 weighs 5 pounds, and the Sony weighs 5.4 pounds.

I generally like chiclet-style or island keyboards, where each key is isolated. The AS5742-7645's keyboard is roomy, but the keys are very thin and flimsy, particularly if you don't hit each key at dead center. Unlike most island-key designs, where the keyboard tray comes up to the bottom edge of the keys, here the keyboard tray appears to be sunken down. Ultimately, leaving wide gaps between the keys and around the edges of the keyboard, making it more prone to dust and dirt accumulation beneath the keys. I prefer the island keyboard of the Sony EB33FM/BJ; the keys are more firm and doesn't have the wide spaces between and underneath the keys where grime can collect.

A dedicated number pad to the right of the keyboard results in a few keys being shortened, namely the Ctrl keys, the Tab key, and the four arrow keys, which are half the normal height. The Acer AS5742-7645 lacks media control keys and requires you to use the Function keys to adjust the volume and control your media.

One of the few drawbacks I found in the Sony EB33FM/BJ was its loud, clacky mouse buttons. But, you won't turn heads in the coffee shop with each mouse click on the AS5742-7645, yet it's not an ideal setup either. The laptop features a single, rocker-style mouse button. It's quite firm to press unless you are clicking on either end of the button. The touchpad is responsive that features a matte surface and support for multi-touch gestures, such as, two-finger scrolling and pinch zooming.

The 15.6-inch widescreen display of the AS5742-7645 laptop has a standard resolution of 1366 by 768. The screen is bright, with vivid colors and crisp edges, particularly during our test running 720p HD movie trailers on Apple's site. The laptop's stereo speakers are merely adequate, but that's common amongst most budget models. You'll also want to keep a pair of headphones or a set of external speakers. A 1.3-megapixel Webcam is just above the display.

Features
An HDMI connection is the highlight of a standard collection of ports, which includes 3 USB 2.0 ports, a VGA port, the Ethernet jack, and the multi-format media card reader. The Sony EB33FM/BJ features these ports and slots in addition to an eSATA port and a 34 slot ExpressCard. The VAIO VPC-EB33FM/BJ also serves the Intel Wireless Display (WiDi), which let's you send video and audio signals from the laptop to the HDTV's HDMI port without the need for cables.

The Sony EB33FM/BJ also trumps the AS5742-7645 in terms of networking. It provides WiMAX for city-wide mobile broadband coverage (with an accompanying $40 monthly subscription), while the AS5742-7645 provides only the basics: Wired Ethernet and 802.11n Wi-Fi connections.

The AS5742-7645 also has the advantage in hard drive capacity, delivering 500GB (5,400rpm) of storage space to the Sony EB33FM/BJ's 320GB. But, the Acer's hard drive comes with its fair share of bloatware. Power the laptop on for the first time, and you'll find it littered with desktop icons for trial offers for Netflix, McAfee Internet Security Suite, and Norton Online Backup. There's also a shortcut for eBay, because typing those four letters into your browser can be such a chore. You'll also find the Barnes & Noble Desktop Reader and The New York Times Reader, which is good only if you have a Times subscription.

I was doubly impressed with the warranty. Typically, a consumer laptop is backed by one year of parts-and-labor coverage. One of the advantages of buying a laptop from Costco is that it comes backed with a two-year warranty.

Performance
Acer Aspire AS5742-7645 With a 2.4GHz Intel Core i3-370M processor and 4GB of DDR3 memory, the AS5742-7645 turned in an admirable showing in the labs. It offers a clear performance advantage over the Pentium-class laptops that are priced near the $500 mark, such as Acer's own Aspire AS5742Z-4097 ($499.99, 3 stars) and Gateway NV55C03u ($479.99, 3 stars). For instance, the Core i3-370M-based AS5742-7645 outflanked its Pentium P6100-based doppelganger, the AS5742Z-4097, by 23 percent on PCMark Vantage. It was also much faster than the AMD Turion II P540-based HP Pavilion dv6-3122us ($649.98 list, 3.5 stars), trouncing the dv6-3122us by a whopping 37 percent on PCMark Vantage, by 27 percent on our Handbrake benchmark test, and by 21 percent on our Photoshop CS5 test. The AS5742-7645 and Sony EB33FM/BJ posted similar scores through lab testing, which comes as no surprise owing to their similar configuration. In Anecdotal testing, Windows 7 Home Premium felt peppy and responsive, even under heavy multitasking scenarios. It has more than enough oomph for the vast majority of mainstream users.

It also has enough battery power for mainstream mobile users. The Aspire AS5742-7645 features a standard 6-cell (48WHr) battery, but it ran for 5 hours 24 minutes on our MobileMark 2007 battery test. That's nearly an hour more than the Sony EB33FM/BJ's time of 4 hours 33 minutes. However, we were impressed with Sony's battery time. Meaning, we're doubly impressed with the AS5742-7645's battery life!

There is nothing to prevent a strong recommendation for the Acer Aspire AS5742-7645. Though its thin, plastic chassis reveals a bit of its budget status, but for home users who don't expect to heap daily abuse upon the machine during commutes or treks to class, the laptop serves up as a useful, if not expensive, feature set. While strong performance, outstanding battery life, and long warranty being add-ons.

Samsung USB 3.0 External Hard Drives review

Samsung USB 3.0 External Hard Drives
Samsung offers three hard drives (hard disk) recently, where two of them is a portable external drive, while another external hard drive for desktop. The three latest Samsung hard drive is already using a USB 3.0 port, which is claimed to provide data transfer speeds up to 5 GB per second. For premium portable drives, Samsung offers a capacity of 1 TB, with a base of 256-bit encryption. Hard disk has been able to make back-up automatically, which also held a back-up software for data encryption.

Meanwhile, for ‘portable external drive’ would be present with a capacity of more than 1 TB. Interestingly, the casing coated with a material that is not easily soiled by fingerprints or scratches. This device will be marketed with a choice of 4 colors: black brown, beige noble, clay orange, and gray mist. Here also, there is completeness ‘dock’ USB, which will launch the process of transfer device with a PC.

Now switch to the ‘desktop external drives’, which this device will come with storage capacity of 1 TB, 1.5 TB and 2 TB. Casing storage media is designed to save space when attached to the desktop. And, also equipped with LED indicator lights. Later, this device will be available in a choice of black and brown and beige Noble.

Unfortunately, the Samsung has not announced the official price of this new external hard drive. Even so, Samsung plans to launch a new hard drive in April.

The base of the device is sealed to prevent the hair tissue prevents the proper functioning of the motion sensor, thus ensuring complete control of the cursor on any surface. The extreme smoothness of the mouse allows its use on sofas, sheets, pillows, clothes, carpets … even desks. To increase the ease and practicality of the device, the Logitech features Hyper-Fast Scrolling lets you scroll quickly through long documents such as blogs or social network pages and precisely control documents switching to click-to-click mode.
