New York, Jan 12: The BlackBerry maker, Research in Motion (RIM), will launch their new iPad Killer tablet, 4G PlayBook, in the second quarter of 2011 through Sprint Nextel in United States. RIM has announced the launch during the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
The new RIM PlayBook has a 7-inch capacitive display and runs on BlackBerry Tablet OS. The touch screen display offers 1024x600 WSVGA resolution that provides maximum entertainment on 4G networks. PalyBook's OS is powered with 1 GHz dual-core processor.
BlackBerry PlayBook offers dual camera, one 3 megapixel front facing for video calling and a 5 megapixel at rear. During the launch at CES, free video calling software, Skype, has been spotted on this tablet. PlayBook also offers 64 GB internal storage.
Other features on PlayBook include Bluetooth, WiFi, HDMI out, MP3, AAC and WMA audio playback etc. The new PlayBook will compete with Apple iPad and as well as Motorola Xoom, which was also revealed at CES. Currently, about 80 percent of the total share of tablet market is controlled by Apple iPad. Also Apple is planning to launch its second version called iPad 2 with additional features.
