Asus G74SX-BBK7 Laptop Review

Asus G74SX-BBK7 has a soft rubberized texture on the lid and interior palm rest, much like the Alienware M17X does. This material feels nice under your hand when typing on the full-sized chiclet keyboard. The keys have a plastic matte finish for a little more grip when typing. There's a numeric keypad off to the right, which is also full-sized with the exception of the 0 key. It's half-sized to make room for the arrow keys. The row of function keys add some nice user-control features, like adjusting the brightness of the screen and backlighting on the keyboard, volume, and turning the Wi-Fi on and off. The multi-touchpad is roomy and easy to navigate with, providing convenient commands, like two-finger scroll and pinch-zoom. The mouse buttons are made of the same soft rubberized texture as the palm rest and were soft and silent when clicked.

Asus G74SX 3D Gaming Laptop Specifications :

* 17.3-inch Full HD display with resolution (1920×1080) or Full HD 3D LED display

HP Pavilion G7-1150us Review, Specs and Price

HP Pavilion G7-1150us is powered by previous generation core i3-370M processor. It may come to your mind, with the availability of successors of this processor like core i3-380M or Sandy bridge i3, is it worth buying. One thing I would like to point in this regard is that there is no significant difference between core i3-370M and i3-380M processors. However, if you go for i3-2310M processor, you will get better graphics for sure, but that comes at extra price. If you are looking for a mobile computing solution for running applications like After Effects CS5 or similar application then you should go for core i5 or i5 Sandy bridge powered laptop like Toshiba Portege R835-P56x. HP G7-1150us comes with Intel core i3-370m dual core processor with Hyper Threading technology, 3MB of L3 cache and operates with 2.4GHz frequency.

The graphics of HP G7-1150us is Intel GMA HD earlier generation graphics which supports DirectX 10. The graphic is built into the processor but in different die. The graphics can accelerate HD video and is capable of dual display via HDMI port. The graphics is also able to display content in Full high definition mode. However, one must have supporting display. HP G7-1150us display resolution is 1600*900, so you can’t watch content in full HD mode. Intel GMA HD supports MPEG2, H264, WMV9, VC1 video formats. It is not a gaming graphics but you can play games like star craft 2, COD modernwarfare 2, at low setting and details. However, most of the Direct X9 compatible games can be played with decent frame rates but you must keep detail setting low. Graphics can notch up to 1969MB of shared memory.

RAM – The laptop comes with 4GB of memory and can be upgraded to 8GB. The hard drive capacity is 640GB that means you can store large number of movies, songs, photos and documents in your computer disk.

Display- The size of the display of G7-1150us model is 17.3” diagonally and maximum resolution supported by it is 1600*900. The display features LED backlit LCD display.

Operating system is Windows 7 home premium with “service pack 1”

Audio- the laptop offers SRS premium sound with integrated Altec Lansing speakers.

When comes to connectivity, it comes with 10/100 MBps fast Ethernet support and 802.11 b/g/n wireless connectivity. Ports include 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 HDMI port, 1 VGA, 1 headphone out and one mic in,

HP G7-1150us also comprises of webcam and integrated microphone, plus integrated DVD burner.

This Charcoal gray colored laptop provides up to 4 and half hours of battery life (approx). It also has a 1-year limited warranty from the manufacturer.

Pros of HP Pavilion G7-1150us

640GB hard drive

HDMI port

Low price

Free hp games preinstalled into it

Cons of HP G7-1150us

No Gigabit Ethernet. However, it doesn’t make much of difference, if you use the laptop for home use and don’t need to download large files from Internet. Most of the entry level laptops, anyway, don’t provide Gigabit Ethernet.

price tag of $530 and $575

HP Pavilion dv6-6033cl review and Price

The Hewlett packard Pavilion dv6-6033cl ($849.99 list, at Costco) uses Intel’s Sandy Bridge processor technology to provide impressive productivity and multimedia performance, and it arrives with a comparatively large hard disk along with a sturdy aluminum finish. Whilst not excessively costly, this desktop alternative laptop is a little costly thinking about its mediocre set of features and the truth that you will find less costly models available that provide similar performance and longer battery existence.

Design

The dv6-6033cl’s lid is covered with a blown black aluminum spend and it is decorated using the requisite backlit Hewlett packard logo design. Rounded edges along with a tight, sturdy hinge mechanism give a way of measuring sturdiness not present in laptops with plastic finishes. A gang of silver trim round the base compliments the black finish, with a slight sheen which will expose streaks although not nearly around what you’ll get having a glossy finish. The dv6-6033cl weighs in at 5.5 pounds, which makes it heavier compared to Acer Aspire AS5742-6811 (4.9 pounds), Samsung RV511-A01 ($599.99 list, 4 stars) (5.2 pounds), and Gateway NV50A02u ($449.99 list, 4 stars) (5 pounds). The 15.6-inch display maxes out at 1,366 by 768, a typical resolution for laptops of the size. The screen is vibrant, and image quality is crisp at 720p, but you will need to stream your HD content because this model doesn’t include a Blu-ray drive. The laptop keyboard deck has got the same metallic finish because the lid and holds a complete size chiclet-style keyboard (also black) having a devoted number pad. The laptop keyboard just enough flex to maintain it from being too stiff and it is comfortable to type on. Just like the dv6-6013cl ($649.99 list, 4.5 stars), this model runs on the multi-touch track pad as opposed to the finicky clickpad utilized on other Pavilion models like the Hewlett packard dm4-1265dx ($649.99 list, 4 stars), and that is a noticable difference the touch pad is wide and it is very responsive, much like both mouse buttons. A thin backlit strip highlighting the touch pad causes it to be simple to use at nighttime. There is not any media player or volume controls about the deck but there’s a fingerprint readers about the lower right side along with a Internet browser hot key and energy switch on the top.

A silver speaker bar situated between your two lid hinges is mounted at an position to assist direct seem towards the user instead of upright. It’s became a member of by two additional loudspeakers within the lower chassis and it is area of the Beats Audio solution, a mix of software and hardware that provides an enhanced listening experience. Audio quality was considerably better quality than what you’ll get on the two-speaker laptop like the The new sony VAIO VPC-EA46FM/V ($799.99 list, 3.5 stars), however it does not provide you with the necessary bass response that you will get having a built-in subwoofer.
