What’s Good: HP’s laptop series gets upgraded to the Pavilion brand with the addition of a new processor. The Pavilion G6-1a69us is the latest version of HP laptops offering users something more.
What’s Bad: The laptop’s CPU is the same as that of last year’s, plus the battery life is very unsatisfactory.
To Summarize: People looking for a great value for their money now have something to choose from. It is a smart choice because this version is an improvement from the one that came out last year. The previous version was available for a price of $500 and contained a Pentium T4500 CPU. The design is newer and more attractive. Also the price range is lower and much affordable. However, the downside is that the graphics and CPU in this version have not been upgraded.
Overview:
Cost: The price of this laptop ranges from $549 to $589. However, it is safe to say that the bottom price is well under $600.
Size: The laptop is 1.2-1.4 inches tall, 14.7 inches wide, 9.7inches thick.
Design and Features: Weighing around 5.3 pounds, the laptop comes in light and dark shades of plastic grey. The keyboard differs from the usual HP Pavilion type. The size of the arrow keys is minimized with no sight of media control buttons anywhere. Making things more confusing is the fact all the keys along with media functions have been mixed together. The addition of a very elegant looking touch pad is unexpectedly pleasing. A simple rectangular box with two elongated mouse buttons underneath engraved right into the wrist rest make scrolling easier and much more fun.
The screen’s resolution stands at 1,366×768-pixel with an LED back light. Missing from the body are extra ports and connections like USB 3.0 and Bluetooth. Built in however is a DVD burner with LightScribe technology.
Improving the version that came out the previous year HP has enhanced the system to be fully Pavilion branded with an Intel Core i3 processor to make the system stronger.
HP’s decision to add some preloaded software in to the system has caused a slower boot time.
Review: The latest in the series of HP laptops, Pavilion G6-1a69us combines a very effective Intel Core i3-380M dual core processor with 4GB of DDR3 memory making it the ideal choice to use when handling different kinds of programs. A hard drive of 500 GB is sufficient enough to save all kinds of files such as applications, media or data.
Playback and recording of all CD and DVD media is made easier with the inclusion of a DVD burner with LightScribe technology. The image quality is acceptable unless you move away. The image gets distorted when the subject is further away. The sound emitting from the Altec Lansing speakers was surprisingly low and not much different than other laptops. Several color options are available for users to choose from.
Conclusion: HP Pavilion G6-1a69us though affordable with some notable changes has nothing significant to offer. The CPU is old, the battery life very poor and many remarkable things are missing from the laptop.
