Gateway has announced new laptop models that deliver stylish design for a fraction of the cost of other comparable notebooks.
First on the block is the ID47 Series (pictured above). With this laptop, Gateway has managed to pack a 14-inch screen into a 13.3-inch body. The result is an impressive HD widescreen display that has almost no bezel along the sides. The lack of plastic mudding up the edges gives the notebook a nice edge-to-edge look.
The $700 model of the ID47 delivers a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-2410M processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, integrated HD 3000 graphics card, Dolby Home Theater v4 sound package, and a 500GB hard drive. Bump your price range up to $800, and Gateway gives you a NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M GPU. Both models include an optical drive, and measure in at a relatively thin 0.85- to 1.14-inches, and a fairly light 4.6 pounds. Gateway also has a $679 model that includes a Core i3 processor, and weights a little more at 5.07 pounds.
All models coming in either “Infinity Blue Liquid” or “Brushed Platinum.” They also all come loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium and HDMI outputs, among other features.
For those on an even tighter budget, Gateway is also releasing two 15.6-inch NV57 Series notebooks. The less-expensive model ($629) packs a 1.5GHz AMD Llano quad-core A8-3500M processor. The other model comes with a Core i3-2310M CPU and an integrated HD 3000 graphics card.
Both the ID Series and NV Series offerings come with USB 3.0 ports, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, single-touch backup, hotkeys for quick social networking and a 1.3MP webcam. Customers in the US and Canada can purchase the ID Series models now, but the NV Series are currently only available in the United States. [digitaltrends.com]
